Melbourne Stage Review is an independent publication devoted to theatre and performance in Melbourne.

We publish reviews, essays and interviews, with particular attention to theatre, contemporary performance and dance. We're interested not only in whether a work succeeds, but in what it is attempting, how it works, and what remains.

We approach criticism as an act of serious attention. That means bringing curiosity and generosity to the encounter without surrendering judgement: taking artists and their intentions seriously, attending closely to the choices made on stage, and being precise about both what works and what does not.

Melbourne Stage Review was founded in July 2026 by Margot E. Scott, a Melbourne-based writer, researcher and interviewer.

Melbourne Stage Review is editorially independent. Complimentary tickets and other relevant relationships are disclosed alongside published work.
